CLASS OF 1991 PACE SETTER AWARD for Excellence in Primary Care
What does receiving this award or scholarship mean to you?
Receiving CLASS OF 1991 PACE SETTER AWARD for Excellence in Primary Care in optometry is an incredible honor for me. It serves as validation of my dedication in the field of optometry and showcases my commitment to providing exceptional primary eye care services to patients. It inspires me to continue striving for excellence in my optometric career and to further enhance the quality of care I can provide to my patients.
What drew you to the field of optometry?
I was drawn into the field of optometry because a family friend served as a role model in the profession. Witnessing their dedication, expertise, and the positive impact they have on their patients deeply inspired me. Growing up, I observed the meaningful connections my family optometrist forged with their patients and the genuine care they provided during eye exams and treatments. Their ability to improve people's lives through better vision health left a lasting impression on me.
What are your plans following graduation?
I'm excited to announce that I've secured employment as an optometrist in New Haven, CT, where I'll be helping residents see clearly! And who knows, maybe I'll even get a chance to give the Bulldogs at Yale University some tips on improving their vision – they've been focusing too much on those textbooks!
What advice would you give incoming or prospective optometry students?
Seek out mentors within the field of optometry who can offer guidance, advice, and support throughout your academic and professional journey. Mentors can provide valuable insights, share their experiences, and help you navigate challenges along the way.
