What does receiving this award or scholarship mean to you?
I am incredibly grateful to be rewarded with these scholarships. Optometry is a career I am very passionate about and I am honored to be recognized as a leader within our community. While I seek to improve quality of life for my patients through their eye and vision needs, it is lovely to know that perhaps I am also helping to improve the quality of other students' experiences through being a mentor when needed.
What drew you to the field of optometry?
My mother has been wearing specialty contacts lenses after a failed refractive surgery procedure for as long as I can remember. She brought me to her optometrist who fit me in orthokeratology lenses when I was eleven, and then I was a technician for the same practice years later and all throughout optometry school.
What are your plans following graduation?
I plan to work in a private practice setting with a focus on primary care, specialty contact lenses, dry eye, and myopia management.
